airing my laundry

I am not gonna lie.
I have always wanted one of these.

A place where my washer and dryer could happily sit,
while they whirrrr away; washing & drying our clothes.

A room that stayed clean and organized; where I could fold my
clean smelling clothes as they came right out of the dryer.

(Google Image)

But thus far, that has not yet happened.

My washer and dryer sadly sit out in the garage and don't always stay very clean.

(Picture will not be included)

I am constantly wiping them down, to rid them of the sawdust that flies from
my husband's power saw. Or the discarded hair particles from the two men who live
in our home, as they use the area over the top of the dryer
with a large mirror propped up, as their barber shop.

GRRRRRR!

(Hope you don't mind as I do a bit of airing out!)

All of that aside--
since our weather is warmer and sunny,
I asked my hubby if he would hang a clothesline outside in our
backyard so that we could save some $$$ on our electricity bill this summer,
and enjoy some fresh smelling clothesline dried clothing, towels & sheets!

I remember growing up with a clothesline out in the yard.

My grandmother's both used one, also.
I have fond memories of them hanging their clothes out to dry
on the line, and watching the wet laundry sway in the wind,
as it dried.

Well, my wonderful hubby happily obliged and put one up in our backyard.

Most of our backyard is concrete and swimming pool, so it was pretty slim pickens'
on where to actually put it.

Some of the towels, when drying was complete, were scratchy,
so I had to throw them in the dryer, to fluff them up a bit.

Today, I am laundering some bed sheets for the guest room.
Can't wait to hang them out on the line!

My cousin Lisa from Ohio made a comment about
this idea of the clothesline.

She wondered if I was becoming--
Well.. California Amish.

I am actually liking the idea of going back to the plain basics of
a slower, non-hurried lifestyle.

I think this may be next--

California Amish...now that is funny!

You have found the perfect spot for your clothes line.

Perfect! My hubby needs to find a new place for our clothesline. When we built the chicken yard 2 years ago it fully intruded into my hanging space. Now Missy, our Buff Orpington roosts on the pole!

I love this and it made me smile. I did read "Almost Amish" and learned a lot..but I am a city girl. My kids have never seen clothes hung on a line, I must do it just so they can see.
Great post
