Some of you may know that I love to read; be it
a book, magazine, or blog.
I came across this saying recently on Pinterest.
'I like to walk down the aisles of the library or bookstore,
and say Hello to the books I've already read.
It is like greeting an old friend.'
(I can so relate!)
When I read a good book, one that I just
can't put down, and it comes down to that
last and final page.
I slowly turn the page and savor each and every word,
because I don't want the story to END.
I have read quite a few books this past year
and some of the endings...
Well, they have been disappointing.
I am noticing if the author of the book is a man (but not always)
when it comes to the end, as many men are not
quite detail oriented; they leave out a lot of detail
that could wrap the story up and finish it quite nicely.
So, instead the book comes to a nice, but abrupt end,
leaving questions or ME wanting to finish the story myself.
And that idea may not always be a good thing.
My husband and my son's declare say that
I am a bit too much into details and ask too many questions.
Tell me if any of you can relate.
My husband goes to a Christmas Party that I am
unable to attend, because I am ill.
At the end of the night, when he arrives home,
I ask him how the party was and he replies, "It was fine".
Now, I just can't live with this answer, so I ask who
attended, what food was served, what the decor looked like,
did they do any new landscaping to the yard, and
what was everyone wearing?
To most of these questions my wonderful husband
replies, " I didn't really notice."
I am sure you can already tell that he is the "quiet one"
in our marriage and I am... not.
If the story was the other way around, and I went to the party and
he stayed home.
He would ask me how the party was and I would have replied,
" It was really good. You should have seen the decor,
and the outside lights they had....
(I could go on & on) or BLAH, BLAH, BLAH."
He hears only the last three words or so...
and never asks me any questions.(Hmmm)
So, if I was to write to some of the author's,
whose books I have recently read,
and told them that I would
have ended the book, "this way" instead.
A response, I may never get, because the request was absurd,
to think that this "creative & detailed" woman could get-
the last word.

We are soul sisters yet again! I'm the same way, and I chuckled at your description of party recap.
My husband might as well have not been in the room.
I also finish novels in my own way. The most recent rewrite was The Help. She just left me hanging so I finished it in my head.
My very favorite final line every was from the book Cheaper By the Dozen.
I cry when I read it for some oddball reason.
I love to know the end of the book or movie. I want to enjoy it!
Husband, well, different story.
Oh, go ahead and give it a try. I think some people don't realize that having the last word is a gift. So few of us have it, they should be thankful.. Thankful I say!
Blessings, Debbie
Oh laughing...remember I am a mom of five boys and only one girl, so I am soooooooooo use to these kind of conversations, and lack of details...even more so now that my daughter doesn't live at home.
too funny on the last word!
This is great! So true for my husband and me. You stated our situation perfectly and I am still smiling. It is fun to find someone who thinks like me.
