A name is something very important-because after all, you carry it around with you for the rest of your life! How many people do you know who say to you, after they have met you, "Well, you look just like your name." How do you think I felt when they would say, "You look just like a Crickit". I wasn't sure how to take that as a compliment since the only Cricket I could think of was....Jiminy! When I was pregnant with all three of my children, I thought long and hard about what name we would give to them, would it be a family name, maybe after a song or maybe even something unusual and unique. I wanted just the right name, the one that would fit them the best, one they could proudly carry with them for the rest of their lives. We decided not to go unusual and went with Daniel, Kristen and Travis. Of course, I must say, that each one of my kids...looks JUST LIKE their name!

I wonder what thoughts my parents had when it came to naming me (really, there was a time in my life where I thought...what were they thinking?) I am the middle child in my family. I have an older brother with a very normal name and a younger sister, also with a normal name. My name is Crickit, and yes...it is my REAL name. While I was growing up everyone thought it was a nick name. In elementary school, I was teased quite a bit, which I am sure you can just imagine. I always dreaded the first day of school each year when the teacher called roll. I would sink down into my seat, as I raised my hand and said, "Here",knowing the other children would be turning around to see where this Crickit was. At least I knew that when someone called my name out on the playground or in a group, I would be the only one turning around. In junior high and high school, it was much better and I really grew to love my name. My name does come with a story and it goes like this. Back in the early 1960's when I was born, there was a show on TV called, "Hawaiian Eye". It was about two private eyes in Hawaii and an actress by the name of Connie Stevens who (sorry I had to word it that way for all of the young folks out there) played a singer and photographer, named Cricket Blake. My mother really liked the show and the name and that is how I became Crickit. She changed the spelling from Cricket to Crickit to make my name and me unique.
So, you see, there is a story to every name that makes each of us unique in our own way... even if your name wasn't as quite as unusual as mine.
I would LOVE to hear how you got your name... please do tell!

I really have no clue about how I got my name. It certainly didn't go with my very Italian last name. People would ask why I didn't have an Italian first name. I'm glad you like your name now. I have to say that I did wonder if Crickit was a nickname.
Have a great day!
Kim
I'm not named after anyone, thing or place.
My parents just liked the name Christine.
Sure did enjoy your history. Now I know a little more about you, which is always fun.
My 5 year old brother wanted the new baby to be a boy so my parents (what were they thinking?!) used Michael for my middle name. So now I go through life as "Mary Mike".
I find your name quite charming - I'm glad you came to like it.
My mom went to school with a girl named Darcy and liked the name. The Lee part comes from my maternal grandparents' last name. I didn't always like my name because it was so different from everyone else's and people would mispronounce it all the time but as I got older I learned to appreciate the difference.
This will be a bit longwinded:
My dear Mother's name was a compromise by her parents - her Dad wanted to name her Polly, while her Mother prefered Mary. So My Mum is named Molly.
Now when Molly had her two daughters .... she got away with naming the first born (1961) with one of the names of Grace Kelly's character in the film "High Society". However when I was born in early 1965 dear Dad didn't agree to the like the other name of the character. So I was named Michelle rather than Samantha.
My sister loathed her first name and has insisted on being known by her second name of Elizabeth since her early 20's. I'm not too hot on "Michelle" (preferring my second name of Lesley) but 2 daughters rejecting their given first names would have been a bit too much. Incidentally my immediate family call me "Mick", which I'm fine with, and I'm, at 45, niw used to "Michelle" too.
I think your name is beautiful, and I've added your blog to my Bookmarks - such a lovely read.
